The Performance Inflatable Play Accreditation (PIPA) Standards testing scheme aims to establish a structured framework for ensuring the safety and compliance of inflatable play equipment, including bouncy castles, with the inspection criteria outlined in HSE guidelines.
Brand new inflatables should have an manufacture initial test, most UK manufacturers now have the initial inspection carried out by a PIPA inspector to make sure it complies with BS EN 14960.
So... Why test your inflatables?
All inflatable equipment which is used for ‘hire & reward’ must be routinely inspected by a competent person under health & safety law. The PIPA scheme helps you achieve this by providing assurance that its inspectors are competent to inspect inflatable devices. Not all inflatables can be inspected under the PIPA at this moment in time. However, PIPA continues to expand its scope and this information will be updated as more device types fall under the scheme.
What can be tested under the PIPA scheme?
Inflatables with that require a constant air design and not sealed units where the intended use is for bouncing or sliding. This included: Bouncy Castles, Inflatable Slide, Bounce & Slide Combinations, Obstacle Course, Enclosed inflatable, Soft Mountains, Multi-play Centre.
The PIPA scheme also now included Non Ride-On Games: Inflatable games which a person does not have to get onto, into or inside the device in order to participate. The user is able to come into contact and interact briefly. They are of a constant air design, and not sealed air units. Examples Include: - Football Shootout's, Archery & Shooting Ranges, Basketball hoops, Bowling Alleys, Dartboards.
